Analysis and Visualization of Vessels’ RElative MOtion (REMO)

This research is a pilot study to develop maritime traffic control system that supports the decision-making process of officers, and evaluate usability prototype tool developed in this study. The analyzed movements multiple vessels through automatic identification (AIS) data using one existing methodologies GIScience, RElative MOtion (REMO) approach. REMO approach measured relative speed, delta-speed, azimuth each vessel per time unit. visualized results on electronic navigational charts developed, V-REMO. In addition, conducted user evaluation assess interface (UI) V-REMO future enhance usability. general V-REMO, visualization, readability information UI were tested in-depth interviews. showed users needed changes size, position, colors, transparency trajectory symbols digital chartmap view for better easier manipulation. also indicated need color schemes spatial more landmark about area view.
